This video is so lovely that it makes me feel a little bad that I said Janet's time was up...
I'm also pretty tickled that "Feedback" bounded into the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Even if Janet mostly makes me sad these days, I'm still rooting for her.

It is gorgeous, but her time is still up. The single take is ambitious, but the video is just Janet vamping it up like Kylie, occasionally taking a minute to flirt with clubgoers or breaking into a dance routine (a la the execution of any of Britney's videos). And her backup dancers look like a Missy Elliot exclusive. I think anything you said about her album still applies here!

This video takes me back to her That's the Way Love Goes days, when even though it's a video, it still seems like it's just her having fun with her friends. I miss videos like this, the ones free of seizure-inducing strobes or quick cuts. Which I suppose could only mean that her time IS up, but like you said... I'm still rooting for her, too.

I haven't heard any of her stuff in a long time--except for maybe that "all the girls at the party" one. And I kinda like the production--that synthy bassline is fun.
The video is flatout awesome--especially if it is just one shot like it looks like it is (or even if they've cleverly hidden some cuts).
And she's lookin more LaToya these days, I think.

I was counting Janet out considering that she didn't start promoting the album until last week. It is a nice video, but I wish she were in it more.

The video is hot, and this song is a highlight on the CD for me. If the label sticks with the record for more than a minute, I think she actually stands a chance.

The song is typical Janet (not in a good way), but I do think the video is hot.

Well, her helmet hair makes her look old... between the outfit and the hair, it looks like she's trying to cover up too much.
I love the song, but I'm 32. Unfortunately I agree that the time for her music and her video style is past. I'm just waiting for them to play this on the easy listening station, and then I will truly feel old.

In other news, ANTM was SO bitchy last night! I can't wait to read the recap :D

I just saw this a few minutes ago. This video is HOT. Also notice that Blake from the first season of So You Think You Can Dance is in her video again. And it looks like Wade Robson choreographed this one.
Nice work!

I'm pretty sure the album debuted in the top spot, actually. And I think Erykah Badu is number two!

Janet is still the shit.
Period.

I really like the song, but this video is pretty much a reinterpretation/mashup of Kylie's "Love At First Sight" and "In Your Eyes" (amazing) videos, with a sprinkling of Britney's "I'm A Slave 4 U".

Every time you mention the new Janet album, all I hear is the line from Feedback:
"I'm heavy like a first day period."
Because I have the maturity level of a 12 year old. I'll own it.
Agreed with the posters above, ANTM was fracking awesome last night. I have no words for it. I'm sure you will, though.

I'm sorry, but I can't take any opinions seriously when those opinions are based on the assertion that Janet has stolen from BRITNEY F'IN SPEARS!
For real? I think you may have that in reverse.
Anyways, I'm totally feeling this song. I'm super excited to pick up her album tomorrow (couldn't get it last week because I'm poor- lol!).

Nice vid but nothing new. Her hair in this is still better than that stupid poodle hair with bangs she's been sporting on several shows (GMA, Ellen). I'm a little surprised Feedback is in the top 20 because I thought that song was DOA. I'm not surprised that the album debuted at #1. She's been doing a lot of promotion the past week or so. Whether or not she's got staying power as far as successful singles go is the real question. No matter who the artist is, once they hit 40 it seems radio doesn't welcome them whether their stuff is just as good if not better than the younger artists. I wish her luck.

Oh shit. She is coming for Madonna. Wow. That was the best thing I've seen and heard from her in YEARS.

The song: Previous commenters have correctly spotted stylistic similarity to vintage Kylie Minogue. Kylie owns that highly processed and slightly flatted kitten cooing style of delivery.
The video: Too many ideas and not enough originality, as has also been noted. The styling and art direction are a mess - a real disappointment since this has always been the long suit of JJ vids.

I love the video, and I just have to say
re: Semiurge: The whole breaking into choreography and flirting with other dancers in between was not something Janet took from Britney. If anything, it's the other way around. Also, the dancers are styled completely differently and dance differently from any Missy Elliot video. If anything, they're less-stylized version of Kylie's dancers. So yeah, I'll agree that this video reminds me of one of Kylie's, but it's exquisite and the choreography and direction are top-notch.

janet and her dancers doing routines? yeah, lovely. we've never seen that before.
