This weekend, I had the distinct pleasure of attending the CFA-IAMS Cat Championship at Madison Square Garden and covering it for Jezebel. My impressions, including video proof of cat-people craziness (or lack thereof), can be experienced here.

It might be just the mustache and the accent, but I swear one of your interviewees is this guy:

And did you bring Winston so the "Crazy cat people" could marvel at his beauty?!?!?
p.s. where can I get cat crocs? That would give my fiance nightmares for years. Actually it terrifies me too.

Nothing is as beautiful as Winston. Notheeng!!
except that ragdoll. Win's got competition.
Aaaand... yo.

I would have liked to meet some more of Winston's cat show cousins.

"Do they call someone with twenty aquariums a crazy fishperson?"
Uh, yes?
This is so good.

Hey, props for using Siouxsie and the Banshees! Winston still out-awesomes everyone else.

I'm so jealous you got go!! Did you at least wear a team Winston/Rudy shirt so they knew you were serious business? =)
Posted by: Cheryl | October 21, 2008 at 02:37 PM
I just received my asphalt grey t-shirt with baby blue TEAM WINSTON from Neighborhoodies yesterday! And I'm wearing it rightnow! Synchronicity, man.

Siouxie's "Kiss them for me" would have also worked. ;) I like your interviewing style, Rich; non-badgering, no trace of bullyrag, and totally free of nettle!
How does it feel to be not only a crazy cat person, but a crazy computer-generator person?

What day did you go? A friend and I went on Saturday afternoon. I think a lot of the attendees were more crazy cat ladies than the breeders. The judges were nutjobs though, especially the guy at ring 3. He was possibly the highlight of the whole show.

Ha! I went to this 2 yrs or so ago with my ex and his Mom. IT WAS PSYCHOTIC! Managed to get some ace pics though...

Ever since I was little I wanted to be a crazy cat lady. It's true. And I am proud to now be know by some as the crazy cat lady. I have 6 cats, give or take. HOWEVER, I rescue strays. I would never purchase a cat from a breeder, I think that's totally irresponsible while cats are dying by the millions every year. Honestly these types of cat shows and AKC dog shows and all that piss me off. When animals aren't dying like they are in pounds and on the street, then start breeding, but in the mean time, SPAY & NEUTER.
Thank you :)

What about all those people who have 20 aquariums in their houses?

Also - nice banner change!
I finally got around to reading "The Mist" this past weekend. Great story. The film adaptation was well done, too.
Mrs. Carmody probably wasn't a cat person.

Loved this post. I have met my fair share of CCL's and this is an excellent depiction of them.
Also, ace banner. I was wondering if you had seen The Mist. I would be very interested to hear your take on it.

Yes, cat people are crazy and my two kitties are more dog-like than stereotypical cats. They both fetch when we play, follow me around the house and hang out. I love my alien kitties (cornish rex and oriental) who wouldn't have a home if I hadn't taken them!

Cats are the prettiest pageant girls!
My family went to a cat show once when I was little and I learned about Maine Coons, Scottish Folds and American Curls. I also drooled over tacky kitty watches and rhinestone pins in the gift shop.
Ragdoll cats are so wonderful! One Ragdoll website claimed, "the fur of a rabbit, the love of a dog".
