Jesi

While watching your mirror scare supercut, I got distracted by your hero.

I know that a lot of people made fun of that "Ring" movie, but the little girl in that thing STILL scares the shit out of me.
Here's to having nightmares for weeks!
Thanks, Rich!

What? No Evil Dead?

Lindsey

i know what you did last summer.... just sayin..... but other than that brilliant

The Long Kiss Goodnight (WHY does no one love this movie as much as me??) has a nice one starting at about 1:25 in this clip...

also.. I know it's not the EXACT formula of seeing a person in the mirror, but I imagine the Poltergeist 'maggot skeleton face' scene would look nice in any montage.

I think there's an example in an Angel episode ("Rm w/a Vu") in which the character who was looking in the mirror doesn't see the ghost when she closes the medicine cabinet.

An interesting variety occurs in Buffy (and plenty of other vampire films/shows) in which the scare happens when the character turns around, as vampires don't appear in mirrors. This leads to me expect a vampire any time the camera shows anyone looking into a mirror.

I'm just sayin'...

if you need more footage, I'm pretty sure Poltergeist III has about 837,622 instances of this. Now that I think of it -- part I has paranormal researcher guy in bathroom mirror scene and part II has Carol Ann at some sort of psychiatric evaluation mirror scene in it as well (?).

Missed one good one: Alex Forrest shows up on the mirror in Anne Gallagher's bathroom mirror after she wiped the fog off in Fatal Attraction. Almost a good a "gotcha" as the rabbit boiling on the stove.....

A good companion piece to this would be a fridge door supercut.

You performed a public service by assembling all those mirror-shock scenes, for which you deserve our gratitude. But I have to agree with that other blogger who reamed you out for omitting "Repulsion" (a genuine classic that, to my mind, still works brilliantly; you don't do yourself any favors by revealing your opinion of it). I don't know for sure if Roman Polanski invented the mirror-shock, but I've always assumed he did, and "Repulsion" certainly predates the films in your list, all of which have -- to put it bluntly -- ripped him off. Failing to acknowledge that film is like compiling a list of Great Moments in Flight and leaving out the Wright brothers.

Saw a link in an imdb forum for this (for the movie Dear John no less). They don't even give you credit, Rich.

It would have been awesome to end this with the scene from Airplane! where Kramer walks through the mirror.

My favorite mirror scare is from Dolores Claiborne when Jennifer Jason Leigh remembers he father molested her, she goes into a bathroom on the ferry, washes her face and when she looks into the mirror she sees the back of her head, for plenty long enough too.

Term paper

The title of the movie is unique. But i have watched many movies action, comedy, adventure. My favorite movie is :
# What Lies Beneath
# Hot Fuzz
# The Unborn
# The Grudge (2004)

Something similar happened a lot on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Character is looking in the mirror (or rearview mirror) and nobody would be there. The character would turn around, and BAM! vampire behind them.

I am glad you did this. It is excellent. And it has been sent to me by approximately one thousand people. God bless your supercuts.

So scary.
