I don't know... it's kind of hard to look at someone who has a right hand but no right arm (seriously, first picture of Annamaria? Great pose.)

Maya

I love how Demi Lovato showed up randomly and was like, Together we can create a bright tomorrow that is free from bullying!

Michelle

"I also can't help but wonder if her eye-roll as she was hawking that blow dryer/curler/straightener/vibrator/stick shift had anything to do with her dismissal."

Ohhhh, most definitely. I OWN one of those glorious contraptions. It also does dishes, walks the dog, writes thank-you notes and calculates sales tax for things that haven't even been considered for purchase yet. It's the future on a stick.

On the other hand, my 15 year-old walked away from this ep stating that Anamaria's ouster was the deus ex machina that was going to allow her (my daughter) the thrill of devouring a cheeseburger as soon as was physically possible. The DVR was still warm as we hit the drive-thru at In-N-Out.

Michelle

And incidentally, **MY** bully word was "pseudo-intellectual". My NEW empowering word was "soup-cooler". I'm as confused as anyone else.

I didn't think Ann was necessary trying to be weird for the sake weirdness with the old man hobosexuality. It seemed like her way of avoiding actually talking about what kind of men she likes, which was a stupid question to begin with. And that's why she responded with clearly ridiculous answers. It's like the polite way of saying that's none of your business.

"Gayla" made me laugh really loud, and then I realized that the insult that would make Kayla cry the most would be "Jayla." One... of... the... top... 5... bitches... in... the... history... of... America's... Next... Top... Modellllllll

All jokes aside, I think that Kayla's story is pretty inspirational and refreshing, and even though I'm buying into Tyra's self-aggrandizing method of editing, if I was still 13 or 14 when watching this cycle, Kayla would be my idol. Just a nice kid who happens to be gay... otherwise no different from all the other kids there. Hopefully this episode helped a few kids out there to feel more secure about their sexuality. =)

Diana

And I'm sorry for the double post.

YEP

The girls are especially "pretty" this cycle, I see...

Erika

...and now my Monday is complete. Thanks again for spontaneous laughs that I must try to stifle in the office so nobody knows I'm reading about ANTM!

I also thought that Kayla had to have been called worse things. I'm assuming they couldn't put "dyke" or "faggot" on her without them getting blurred out though.

I do really like her actually.

When she gets older she'll learn to reclaim those words. I wanted her to do that and be strong and not be so emotional, but she's still kind of a baby dyke... and it makes for better tv, I guess, with the crying.

Dina

The case for Kayla winning keeps getting stronger. A) Gay! B) Blonde (only blonde winner was Caridee and I think TyTy wants to forget her as much as Adrienne) and C) make up for crowning Whitney instead of Anya. Although I'm sure Anya's still thanking her for that.

pug

Pleeeeease tell me someone else saw that "luscious" is misspelled on Terra's left collarbone area!!!!

grafittix

This is one of your best posts ever. I love when you call Tyra out on her conceited, pretentious bullshit. I'd love to see the look on her face when she reads it (I like to imagine she's so vain she reads anything about her).

Chelsea

I have a hard time believing that "weirdo" was the worst thing Esther's peers flung at her. Insecure, A-cup girls in high school can do way worse when threatened with G-cup torpedos. For example, when confronted with a freshman with Esther-sized tits, my friend and I named her Slutty Big Boobs and lauded her ability to spray paint on her pants every morning.

Also, was I the only one who had a hard time coming up with only word or phrase that was used to hurt my feelings in high school?

Anamaria is a fucking slob, though, no? I think she was disgusting looking--maybe I fell for the skinny reel they edited together as the panel talked about her--and there was a really brief shot of her walking off the set after her shoot and her ass looked so deflated and sick that when you see something like that you immediately know it can't exist on a healthy person's body.

Nessie

Chelsey looks straight-up Dennis Leary to me, no?
AND, Esther's first photo in the Pretty Party is all Warwick Davis in Leprechaun. And last I checked, neither Dennis nor the Leprechaun are top models. This does not bode well for either of these ladies.

punchy judy

when she is in full make up and not speaking Ann's face gives me an Alex McCord from RHONYC vibe. and then she speaks and is just goofy outcast ann again.

This season is still ridiculous but with the campy vibe toned down making it more bearable than the last few cycles.

Layla

Thanks, Rich. My bully word was Gayla. I was going to ask you how it felt to be in Tyra's position, but then I came up with Jayla as my power word, and I felt better.

AL

Really Nessie? I thought Chelsey looked a little like Lara Stone in her picture, and not just because she, too, is a gap-toothed blonde, but because her super scary facial expression is exactly what Lara is best at.

MB

My favorite part was when Demi Lovato said that bullying is one of her "platforms."

Jen Hughes

Awesome! Also, the editor in me can't help but notice that they mispelled "lucious" on Miss Soup Cooler. I yelled that out during the show. :)

Vanessa M

You know as I watched Tyra counselling the girls I thought she was exceptionally sensitive-for Tyra it goes without saying. But then I considered if this was about taking power back (of words that cannot hurt me...and if they do I'll cry and yell "Kiss my fat! ass!" on my talk show to prove how much they so don't hurt me), then why were Tyra and Jay's insult words so impersonal and lame? Big forehead and band geek?

Also, what is the power word for when someone tells you that your body is gauche? Droite?

BTW, I was at the gym this weekend and saw part of a Sheena cycle marathon and saw Kacey in the ranks of the auf'd girls.

So far, none of the girls seem to be bubbling cauldrons of personality disorder so that is good news.

Vanessa M

I have lots to say about a vacuous subject it seems.

It also occurs to me that I feared that with Tyra's talk show gone, she would focus on this show and make it unbearably Tyra-centric and unbearably self-conscious would-be camp. But it seemed if anything toned down. Surprising but certainly for the better.
