Oh, Rich. I value your opinion so, but I still cannot shake off you vigilant anti-Robyn sentiments. As soon as I made my peace with it, agreed to disagree and moved on with my life, I read your Critic's Roundtable piece that revealed you giving Nicki Minaj credit for something! Gah!

I still love your recommendations, though. Perfect Stranger was undoubtedly the track of 2010, even over my precious Robyn.

Not tryna hate

I didn't know anyone was anti-Robyn. She's great!

It's weird because I love Rich's opinions too- especially when it comes to horror movies- but I just can't get on board with his taste in music. Like I read what he says- I would LOVE to listen to the "happiest song" from 2010 that sounds like "one big warm embrace"- but then I click play on the video and it just sounds like mush to me. Mush with bad production values.

Yayuhh glad to see Netsky + Onra made it.

To be blunt

Let's be honest, the Robyn hate feels a little Armond White-style contrary.

Still enjoy the vast majority of the writing and the blog; some great finds on here.

Love the Katy B love.

anonymous Janelle fan

Am I the only one really bothered by the fact that Rich has refused to acknowledge Janelle Monae whatsoever? He's not once mentioned her, and considering that her single came in second, this seems to be a pretty glaring oversight.

I have nothing to offer except to add my voice to the chorus that I've found your Robyn-dislike strange ever since you criticized Dream On around the time you were covering Cycle 5 of ANTM, and that Janelle Monae cannot be ignored any longer.

Robyn, as a package, has much more to offer than almost any other pop artist, as she's simultaneously listenable, vulnerable, and so willing to experiment with new sounds.

And I, too, have noticed no mentioned of JaMo. Katy B's role as voice of the future is not threatened by Janelle, because JaMo is the voice of the present, as far as I'm concerned.

Ben

Guys, chill with the Robyn stuff. I'm certainly a Robyn fan, but Rich has every right to dislike her, and he's discussed pretty eloquently, in my opinion, why he's personally not an admirer. Although I enjoy listening to "Body Talk," the points that Rich made in his article on her were valid, and I could see where he was coming from with most of them.

In short, if someone whose taste you generally like isn't into an artist you love, get over it. Rabid fans of anyone scare the shit out of me.

I just had an epiphany, I need to go to Tiffany's, play Kenny's Somewhere With You, cause it makes me feel blue.

Love Harder, for me, was the best album of 2010. In terms of enjoyment, surprise, danceability and whatever makes an album sound fresh every time you go back to it, it had it all. Talk about woefully neglected: yours is the only blog write-up I've even seen for this album. (And it figures the comments section glosses right over the positive review and instead dwells on a perceived diss of another artist...)

@Ben (and Rich, obviously): didn't mean to start this barrage of Robyn stanning; Rich's criticisms are extremely well-founded and articulated. I was just observing (mostly in jest) that he positively despises Nicki Minaj but still managed to credit her in some capacity, while Robyn is never shown any love (bada-bum).

You love Katy B, but what about Riya? Check out Seems Like or Open Page collaborations with D-Bridge and Lenzman respectively.

I think you are right when you say this. Hats off man, what a superlative knowledge you have on this subject…hope to see more work of yours.

I don't know I think Rich is right on when it comes to both Katy B AND Robyn. I am just not feeling Robyn. But the most overlooked single of the year was definitely Kele's Tenderoni http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdQioZHYpvQ if this doesn't make you want to dance there is something terribly wrong with you.

Great great great! woohah!
